Who Can Raise Funds?
Your campaign must be cause-related -- which means that the campaign is meant to raise awareness and funds to support another person, organization, nonprofit or foundation that you’re passionate about.
You don’t have to be a 501c3 non-profit to raise funds. Your campaign does not necessarily have to support a 501c3 non-profit, but can support a friend, family member, or other member of your community.
Follow these steps to set up your campaign to raise funds for someone else:
1. Create a Campaign On Indiegogo
Create a campaign on Indiegogo that raises awareness and funds to support another person, organization, nonprofit or foundation that you’re passionate about. Before you put on finishing touches, please make sure to have done the following:
If you raise money to support an individual, private person, please make sure to get consent of the person for whom you are raising funds prior to posting the campaign. Make sure they understand that the campaign page will remain live indefinitely, even after the campaign deadline has passed.
Add the person or organization that benefits from your campaign to the campaign’s team, with editor privileges.
Non-profit Campaigns: If you are raising funds on behalf of a 501c3 non-profit organization, we highly recommend that you contact the 501c3 and let them know you are creating an Indiegogo campaign on their behalf.
- Set the payment options so the funds go directly to the beneficiary by entering the beneficiary’s bank account on your campaign’s Funding tab.
- Be as open and transparent as possible: Make sure to clearly outline your relationship to the campaign's beneficiary in your campaign’s Pitch Text.
2. Spread The Word
Make sure to leverage the social network of the person or the organization you support with your campaign. It’s important to encourage support among family, friends, and acquaintances to maximize the outcome.
