How will the feature work?
When an eligible backer arrives on the checkout page for an eligible campaign, they will be presented with the option to pay in full or pay over time.
If the backer selects pay over time, they will be charged for the first payment (¼ of the total amount rounded to the nearest whole number, including shipping and tip) at checkout.
In the event we need to convert the price of the perk, we will show an approximation of each payment in the backer’s home currency. Each payment will be made in the currency of the campaign. The converted price may change due to currency fluctuations over time.
Each subsequent payment will be charged on the same calendar day of each subsequent month. For example:
- Initial contribution on June 14
- 2nd payment on July 14
- 3rd payment on August 14
- Final payment on September 14
While payments are being made, the order will be considered pending and no items associated with the order should be shipped.
When the final payment is made, the order will be completed.
We will use the payment method used for the initial payment to process all payments.
If a payment attempt is unsuccessful, we will send a notification to the backer asking them to update their payment method.
If the 2nd payment attempt is unsuccessful, we will roll their failed payment into the next payment.
If the 3rd payment attempt in a row is unsuccessful, we will refund the entire order.
Are there any restrictions around pay over time?
Note: All restrictions are in place for the beta and v1 and may be made less restrictive or configurable in the future.
- All contributions made with pay over time will be divided into 4 equal payments
- Backers may only use pay over time for one contribution at a time (if they complete their payments on a contribution, they may use pay over time again)
- Pay over time will only be available for cart sizes between $400-$20,000 (campaigns with higher cart sizes may opt-in)
How does pay over time affect the funds raised amount?
After the initial payment is made, the full amount of the order will be added to funds raised.
When do I receive the money for a contribution that was made using Pay Over Time?
Contributions that are in the middle of Pay Over Time payments are considered “pending.” Only when all payments are made successfully will the order be considered “complete.”
Campaigners will receive funds for completed orders on their regular disbursement schedule for crowdfunding or InDemand. Campaigners should only ship perks to completed orders.
In the example above, all the funds for this order will be included in the disbursement following September 14.
What happens to the item amount when an order is in the middle of pay over time?
Items in a pay over time order are counted while the order is pending. If the order is refunded, the item will be released back to inventory.
What fees are associated with Pay Over Time contributions?
Regardless of the payment method used by backers to support a campaign, all applicable platform and payment processing fees will be deducted from each disbursement we send to you. You may encounter the following types of fees:
- Indiegogo platform fee
- Third party fees or Transaction Fees - Our payment processor, Stripe, charges a fee for each transaction, but there are no additional fees for using Pay Over Time. However, while a standard transaction fee costs “3% + $0.20” for example, Pay Over Time charges the same “3% + $0.20” for each of its four payments.
- Transfer fee or Bank delivery fees
